When is the 2027 A/L exam?
The Department of Examinations had not announced the date of the 2027 G.C.E. (A/L) examination when this page was last checked, in October 2026. We will not guess a date, and nothing on this site counts down to one.
What is known comes from the last sitting: the 2026 A/L ran from 10 August to 5 September 2026 (Ada Derana). That is a guide to the shape of the next one, not a date, and dates do move from one year to the next. A safe way to plan is to work back from August 2027 and treat any extra months as bonus revision time.
We will update this page when the Department of Examinations announces the date. Its notice on doenets.lk is the only authority on dates.
Last checked October 2026.
The A/L ICT 2027 papers
A/L ICT is assessed in two papers. This is the format of the current papers; if the Department of Examinations or the NIE announce a change for 2027, it will be added here.
Paper I (MCQ)
2 hours · 50 questions
50 multiple-choice questions, answer all. Negative marking is not applied, so never leave a blank.
Paper II (Structured & Essay)
3 hours
Part A structured questions (answer all), Part B essay questions (choose a subset). This is where command words decide the mark.
Sit the free 2026 Paper I to feel the pace of Paper I, and read the command words before you write a Paper II answer. How to work through a paper so it changes your mark is in the past papers guide.
The 2027 syllabus, unit by unit
These units follow the current National Institute of Education (NIE) A/L ICT syllabus, which the Grade 12 and 13 Teachers' Guides are written to. If the NIE publishes a revised syllabus, this page will say so. Period counts are the syllabus's own, and more periods generally means more marks. Tap a unit for its lessons and exam focus, or open the full syllabus.
Grade 12
Grade 13
Unit 14, the school project, is assessed in school rather than in the written papers.
Where the marks are likely to be in 2027
This is a pattern analysis by Dr. Yasas Sri Wickramasinghe: past papers and the syllabus's own period weighting, scored for pattern, recency and syllabus weight. It is not a leaked paper and not a guarantee of what will be asked. Here is every examined unit in the order the analysis ranks it.
Disclaimer
This is a probability-ranked focus list built from historical pattern analysis and syllabus weighting. It is not a leaked paper, it is not sourced from any exam board, and it is not a guarantee of what will appear on the 2027 paper.

A month-by-month plan to the 2027 exam
A free, general plan from November 2026. It is an estimate: the months are worked back from an exam around August 2027, because no date is announced. Skip what you have already mastered, and spend the time on the units your own tests show are weak.
Find your starting point
November 2026Take the free test for every unit you have covered, and sit the free 2026 Paper I. Write down the three units that cost you the most marks: they decide the order of everything below.
Start a daily habit, and learn the command words
December 2026One MCQ a day keeps the facts moving. Give one evening to the command words (state, explain, distinguish), because a mark lost to the wrong command word has nothing to do with what you know.
The heaviest units first
January 2027Start with the units that carry the most periods on the syllabus: Programming (Unit 9), System Analysis and Design (Unit 7) and Web Development (Unit 10). For each, read the syllabus unit, then its short notes, then take its test.
The next heaviest units
February 2027Next come Data Communication and Networking (Unit 6) and Database Management (Unit 8), the next two largest by period count. Finish each unit with its test, and note every question you missed.
The rest of the syllabus
March 2027Cover Concept of ICT (Unit 1), Introduction to Computer (Unit 2), Data Representation (Unit 3), Fundamentals of Digital Circuits (Unit 4) and Computer Operating System (Unit 5). Number systems and logic gates are practice units: do the conversions and truth tables by hand until they are quick.
The small units, then your weak spots again
April 2027Cover Internet of Things (Unit 11), ICT in Business (Unit 12) and New Trends and Future Directions of ICT (Unit 13). They carry few periods, but our pattern analysis marks business and new trends as possible Paper II essay topics. Then retake the unit tests you did worst in November: the gap between then and now is your progress.
Write Paper II answers in full
May 2027Take past Paper II questions and write complete answers, in full sentences, then mark them against the scheme. This is where command words decide the mark, and a mark lost to the wrong command word is one you can win back without learning anything new.
Full timed papers begin
June 2027With the syllabus covered, sit a full Paper I every week: two hours, closed-book, phone away. Mark it, trace every lost mark to its unit, and fix that unit. Every few weeks, re-sit a paper you did badly: if the same marks are still lost, the fix did not take.
The last month: papers, weak units, nothing new
July 2027Alternate a timed Paper I with a timed Paper II. Revise only the weak units your own marks show, from the short notes. Stop learning new topics about two weeks before the exam, and get your admission card, index number and exam-day plan in order.
Measure the real date against August: if the exam turns out later, spend the extra months between March and June on more full papers. If it is earlier, start full papers a month sooner and keep only your weakest units between February and April. Short on time, or repeating? The revision plan works by weeks left instead of months.

Questions about A/L ICT 2027
When is the 2027 A/L exam?
The Department of Examinations had not announced the date of the 2027 A/L examination when this page was last checked, in October 2026. The 2026 exam ran from 10 August to 5 September 2026, so a safe way to plan is to work back from August 2027 and treat any extra months as bonus revision time. Two papers. Paper I (MCQ): 50 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours, all to be answered, with no negative marking. This is the current format; if the Department of Examinations announces a change for 2027, this page will say so.
Which units matter most for 2027?
By the syllabus's own period allocation, the heaviest units are Programming (Unit 9, 74 periods), System Analysis and Design (Unit 7, 68 periods), Web Development (Unit 10, 60 periods), Data Communication and Networking (Unit 6, 50 periods) and Database Management (Unit 8, 50 periods). Our 2027 pattern analysis ranks Algorithms & Python programming, Data communication & networking, Web development (HTML/CSS/PHP) and Databases & SQL as the high-likelihood areas.
